Letter: Instead of spending, try reducing energy

Wind power is not environmentally or economically responsible.
Extracting neodymium, a component of wind turbine magnets, has produced a vast man-made lake of radioactive material in Baotou, China. Wind turbine blades may contain 9.6 tons of non-biodegradable fiberglass. Turbines contain 850 gallons of petroleum-based oil. Wind power increases CO2 emissions with gas and coal plants running 24/7 to ensure a constant flow of energy when there is lack of wind. Taxpayers subsidize wind power at $23.34 per megawatt hour compared to natural gas at $.25 per MWH.
Instead of spending billions on wind energy, which is only capable of producing less than 3 percent of our nations energy, I invite you to accept the Friends of the Grande Ronde Valley Challenge, Cut back energy consumption by 3 percent! Now that is an environmentally and economically responsible decision!
