Theft spree results in arrests of two women

Police arrested a pair of Hermiston women on suspicion they had stolen from several stores Friday and Saturday.
Hermiston Police Officer Rod Vega initiated an investigation Friday after a call from Maurices in Hermiston. A news release from the police department said Vega identified two teenage women responsible for the loss of merchandise.
The next day, Vega and Officer Josh Roberts contacted Dakota J. Winn, 18, and Stephanie K. Haigler, also 18, at Haiglers residence at 405 S.W. 11th St. No. 12, Hermiston.
Further investigation led to the recovery of a significant amount of property the duo admitted to stealing from various stores Friday and Saturday, the news release said.
Police charged the pair with first-degree theft and criminal conspiracy to commit theft.
Although the investigation continues with the retrieval of additional evidence, including surveillance footage, police claimed the pair is responsible for stealing merchandise worth $1,455.65 from six stores in Hermiston: $615.06 from Rite Aid; $330 from Maurices; $252.64 from Walmart; $143 from Payless Shoes; $104.95 from Bealls Department Store; and $10 from Dollar Tree.
The majority of the property consisted of clothing and cosmetic items, the news release said.
Additionally, police also charged Haigler with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police booked both women into the Umatilla County Jail in Pendleton, which has since released them.
