PENDLETON Linda L. Cates, 61, of Pendleton died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton. A family memorial service will be held at a later date in Portland.
Ms. Cates was born Jan. 23, 1950, in Fort Ord, Calif., to Jack and Marilyn (Hammy) Cates. As a young girl she moved with her family to Troutdale, where she was raised and educated.
After her schooling she worked at Pacific Northwest Bell and as a caseworker for the State of Oregon. In about 1980 she became disabled while working for Pacific Northwest Bell. She later moved to Missouri in about 1986. She came to Pendleton in 2002.
Ms. Cates is survived by children James Cates, Chase Bales and Tasha Bales, all of Pendleton, Jared Bales of Iberia, Mo., Tara Sanders of Louisiana and Greg Harlow of Oregon City; brothers Jack Cates of Gresham and Richard Cates of Portland; sisters Patty Baggett of Pendleton, Chris Shrout of La Grande and Sandra Cates of Vancouver, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughter Theresa Cates; her parents; a stepfather; and a sister.
