Fire destroys Irrigon home

IRRIGON A mysterious fire burned an Irrigon home to the ground Monday.

The house, a double-wide with built-on rooms on Wagon Wheel Loop south of town, caught fire at around 9:30 a.m. It was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, according to Irrigon Fire Chief Larry Burns.

Burns said no one was home when the fire started. The family had left for the mountains to enjoy the holiday, he said. They returned later in the day after a neighbor called them. Burns said he could not reveal the owners name because the fire is under investigation.

The Boardman and Umatilla fire departments helped extinguish the fire. They worked at the scene all day, Burns said. The house and everything in it, he added, was lost.

A certified fire investigator from the Boardman Fire Department is looking into the fires cause.
