Letter: Pilot Rock Cemetery has received help from many

The people of Pilot Rock are very privileged to live in a small town of caring individuals. Pilot Rock Cemetery has been on the receiving end of several generous donations and memorials in the past 10 years.
Memorials in the name of Lavon Lankford, Dr. Richard Koch, Ralph Low, John Rugg, Marie Hemphill and Anita Hutchison, and generous donations from The Rocket Reunion Committee (graduating classes from 1948-1963) and the Hometowners Reunion Committee (graduating classes up to 1948), have helped in the purchase of much-needed equipment and beautification projects.
In the past few years, we have used this money to purchase a cemetery awning with curtains, a sound system, a beautified entrance (with a new gate and flower bed) and new trees. We were able to purchase several flowering trees the same time the city of Pilot Rock did last spring, and plan to order more (if we can keep the deer from destroying the ones we currently have).
The Hometowners Reunion Committee requested we use their donation to install a new cemetery sign on Birch Creek Road. Jim Mathews, of this group, is working with us to get the sign made and installed. They also requested we purchase American flags with some of the money. This is an answer to a long-time dream of the board of directors. We have wanted an avenue of flags for many years. This Veterans Day we saw the beginning of that dream. Jerry Headley, our sexton, prepared stands and poles and we were able to have a small row of American flags flying. We hope to increase this avenue in the next year.
The board of directors would like to express their thanks to all who have helped us.
