Whitney Hofer and Shawn Flanagan, both of Hartford, S.D., announce their engagement.

Parents of the couple are Mark and Teresa Hofer of Hartford, S.D., Mike Flanagan of Woodburn and Terry Becktold of Pendleton.

Whitney is a 2009 graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and is a registered nurse at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Shawn, a 2002 graduate of Pendleton High School and a 2009 graduate of University of Sioux Falls, is a correctional officer at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls. He also coaches for Lincoln High School as an offensive line coach.

An Oct. 22, 2010, wedding is planned at St. Michael’s Parish in Sioux Falls.
