Letter: Student cites reasons to raise school funding

I think our schools should have more money. Some of our books are old and tattered and in need of replacement. Many of the computers throughout the schools are slow and outdated. We need more printers. Class sizes are so big that students don’t get the individual help they need. We need more teachers. Schools need more fun classes added to their curriculum. I would like to see classes in archery or architecture or an automotive class where I could learn to work on cars.

Schools also need essential equipment such as calculators, pencil sharpeners, and spell checkers. It would be nice to have more dictionaries or better books in the library.

There is not enough money to keep up with the buildings’ needs. Many of the doors on the bathroom stalls are missing in the boy’s bathrooms. I don’t like going to the bathroom with an audience. Some of the toilet paper holders are damaged. Some of the desks in the rooms need to be replaced.

I think schools should have more language classes besides Spanish and French, but there is not enough money. I would like to have foreign language classes like German, or Chinese, or Russian.

Schools don’t have the money to cover sports anymore so the kids have to pay to play. It costs a lot of money for kids to play sports. This affects families because they don’t have enough money to do other things they might want to do. Some kids don’t get to play sports because their families don’t have enough money to pay for sports. I don’t think it is fair that kids who want to play sports can’t just because they don’t have the money.

Schools need more money for equipment, programs and supplies.
