Obituary: Richard W. Hathaway II

PORTLAND – Richard W. Hathaway II, 49, of Myrtle Point died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the Oregon Health & Science University Medical Center in Portland. A private family memorial will be held in Myrtle Point.

Mr. Hathaway was born June 18, 1960, in Los Angeles County, Calif., to Joan Hutchinson and Richard Hathaway. He was a Umatilla County area resident for nine years.

He was employed as a cook or carpenter for most of his life. He worked for several fine dining establishments, where he refined his personal technique with flavors and spices. In carpentry he was a master of texture.

Mr. Hathaway is survived by his mother, Joan E. Hutchinson of Myrtle Point; sister Joan E. Lorenzen of Pendleton; a niece, two nephews and a great-niece; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hathaway; stepmother Billy Hathaway; and stepfather W. “Hutch” Hutchinson.
