James Garvis Williams, 62, of The Dalles, died Aug. 11, 2009, after a brief illness. A celebration of life service will be Sunday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 1003 Sunflower St. W, in The Dalles.
Mr. Williams was born Jan. 14, 1947, to Allen Alonza and Nanny Etoile (Maples) Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 35 years of service. He earned a bachelor’s degree while employed with the corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Wiley Bruce Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia Elizabeth Hyde Williams; three sons, Eric Andrew Williams and his wife Lori of Olympia, Wash., Charles Jason Williams and his wife Annette of Shelbyville, Tenn., and Darrin Thomas Williams and his wife Karissa of Hermiston; nine grandhchildren; three sisters, Virginia Adams of Dover, Del., Sue Cooper of Huntsville, Ala., and Mary Lee Brink of Huntsville, Ala; and two brothers, Robert Williams of Florence, Ala., and Charles Williams of Shelbyville, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Sovereign Grace Baptist Church, 1003 Sunflower St. W, in The Dalles.
