Tillman “Ted” Bronson, 80, of Pilot Rock died on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Evergreen Care in Milton-Freewater. 

Ted was born on May 4, 1929 to Emery and Sara (Clark) Bronson. He was born and raised on Cabbage Hill, and he attended school there. He then went to school up Iskuulpa Creek.

Ted was a bull rider in the rodeo circuit, where he met his first wife Dixie Simpson. They married on July 29, 1953 in Walla Walla, Washington. The couple had 4 children. That marriage later ended.

On February 14, 1977 he married Beatrice McKay at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Mission.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and spending time with his dogs, and his family.

Ted is survived by his wife Beatrice Bronson at the home in Pilot Rock, his children: Virgil Bronson of Gibbon, Patty Hall of Pendleton, Sara Haskett of Echo, Teddi Bronson of Mission, Melvin of Spokane, Wash., John of Pilot Rock, and Anthony of La Grande, his sisters Charlotte Bronson of Washington, Pat Bronson of Oklahoma, and Frieda McLain of Christmas Valley, and brother Virgil Bronson of Cayuse, 21 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a step-daughter Reba, his sister Juanita Phillips, brothers Emery Bronson, David Bronson, and James Bronson, and his parents.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the Agency Longhouse in Mission, at 7 p.m. with a Washat to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 17, at St. Andrew’s Mission at 9 a.m., followed by burial at the St. Andrews Cemetery. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.
