Easter brings myriad of activities

From making Easter baskets to community Easter egg hunts and early morning Easter sunrise services, a number of area organizations and churches are planning special events during the Easter season. Below are activities and events the East Oregonian has been notified of:
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1
LENTEN LUNCH, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 352 S.E. Second St., Pendleton. Cost is $6 for full meal; $4, soup and bread; and $3 pie and coffee. Includes Virginia’s chicken tortellini, Barbara’s beef, vegetable barley, Carol’s broccoli cheese and Janet’s vegetarian (gluten-free).
LENTEN SOUP SUPPER AND SERVICE, 6 p.m. supper, 7 p.m. service, First Presbyterian Church, 201 S.W. Dorion Ave., Pendleton. Payment is by donation.
SATURDAY, APRIL 4
EASTER EGG HUNT, McNary Park West, Umatilla. 10 a.m. ages 4-5 years; 11 a.m. ages 6-7 years, 11:30 a.m. 8-10 years. Lots of prizes. Tickets $3 prior to the event at the Walmart Distribution Center March 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29 and 31 and April 2 from noon to 6 p.m.; tickets are $4 the day of the event. MAKE AN EASTER BASKET, 1-5 p.m., Suncatcher Studio & Fine Crafts, 508 N. Main St., Milton-Freewater. Cost is $30 and includes materials to complete one basket. Class size limited, call 938-6379 to register or for more information.
THURSDAY, APRIL 9
MAUNDY THURSDAY SEDER MEAL, 6 p.m., Echo Community United Methodist Church, 21 N. Bonanza St. Call 376-8108 for reservations.
FRIDAY, APRIL 10
STATIONS OF THE CROSS, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Echo Community United Methodist Church, 21 N. Bonanza St. The church will have its doors open to all for a time of prayer on Good Friday.
“THE WAY OF THE CROSS,” 12 noon, from Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 565 W. Hermiston Ave., Hermiston. Youths and members of the congregation will re-enact Jesus carrying the cross as they head to the Hermiston Butte.
FABULOUS FISH FRY, 5-6:30 p.m., St. Anthony Hospital cafeteria, 1601 S.E. Court Ave. All-you-can-eat beer-battered cod, baked beans, cole slaw and baked potato or French fries, $6.50 for adults, $5 seniors, $3 children 7-12, $2 children 6 and under. For takeout orders, call 276-5121 ext. 8285.
SPAGHETTI FEED, EASTER EGG HUNT & SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR, 6-8 p.m., Stanfield Elementary School, 1120 N. Main St. Cost is $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Elephant’s Trunk Antiques, Main Stylin’ Nook, Stanfield Public Library or the city of Stanfield. Call 449-1254 for more information.
FLASHLIGHT EASTER EGG HUNT, 8 p.m., Butte Park, 1245 N.W. Seventh St., Hermiston. Children ages 10 and younger will hunt for thousands of eggs, some containing special prizes.
SATURDAY, APRIL 11
PENDLETON EAGLES LODGE EASTER EGG HUNT, 9 a.m., for children 8 and older, Roy Raley Park, on Southwest Court Avenue next to the Round-Up grounds; children 0-7, Til Taylor Park, on Southeast Court Avenue. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around. Amongst the eggs will be special prizes to be redeemed at Albertson’s.
EASTER EGG HUNT, 9 a.m., infants through age 4, Echo Community United Methodist Church, 21 N. Bonanza St.; children 5-8, Fort Henrietta Park, Echo; children 9-12, football field at Echo High School.
EASTER EGG HUNT, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., New Hope Community Church 1350 S. Hwy. 39, Hermiston. Easter egg hunt is followed by a petting zoo, food, crafts, a puppet show, popcorn and more. Call 567-8441 for more information.
TILLICUM CLUB EASTER EGG HUNT, 10 a.m., Boardman Marina Park. The event is free and open to walking babies through fourth grade. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance. Among the eggs will be special prize eggs.
SUNDAY, APRIL 12
COMMUNITY-WIDE SUNRISE SERVICE, 6 a.m., Bard Park, Stanfield. A breakfast, on a donation basis, will be served after the service at the Stanfield Community Center, 225 Roosevelt Ave.
SUNRISE SERVICE, 6:30 a.m., Echo City Park. Hot beverages and rolls will be served.
EASTER SUNRISE SERVICE, 6:30 a.m., Sunridge Middle School, 700 S.W. Runnion Ave., Pendleton.
SONRISE SERVICE, 8 a.m., Riverfront Park, Orchard Extension Loop, Hermiston. The Rev. Terry Cummings of the Hermiston Church of the Nazarene will lead the service of music and drama. A breakfast will be served afterwards at the church, 1520 W. orchard Ave.
EASTER CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Hermiston Elks Lodge No. 1845, 480 E. Main St. Cost is $8.50 for members and guests.
“THE PASSION,” 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Pendleton Baptist Church, 3202 S.E. Nye Ave., Pendleton. Live musical/drama depicting the last week of Jesus’ life. All ages welcome; free admission. Call Pastor Bill Griggs at 276-7590 for more information.
MONDAY, APRIL 13
EASTER LUNCHEON, 11 a.m., Masonic Temple, 200 W. Orchard Ave., Hermiston. Cost is $7. Call 567-6806 or go to the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce, 415 S. Highway 395, for reservations.
