WILSONVILLE – A towing company has agreed to refund a $165 “drop fee” to an assault victim who parked illegally at her apartment complex after fleeing from her boyfriend.

The owner of Retriever Towing, Gary Coe, said dozens of people called to protest the actions of the tow-truck driver.

Coe also said the company Web site received more than 600 complaints after the incident made news.

But he said it was a request from the management company at the apartment complex that made him decide to refund the $165 to the woman assaulted by her boyfriend.

A Retriever Towing driver took her car even though her face had been bloodied and a sheriff’s deputy explained she was the victim of domestic violence.
