PENDLETON – The Pendleton softball team flexed its offensive muscle in the nightcap of a doubleheader Saturday to open the season with a sweep of the La Grande Tigers 5-1, 10-4.
In the fourth inning of Game 2 Shanna Treloar, Steffane Oles and Tia Smith hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to take a lead they wouldn’t surrender.
“It was a pretty amazing inning,” coach Tim Cary said.
The homers made up for a first-inning grand slam by La Grande, which came on a double, error, single and home run by the first four batters.
In Game 1 sophomore ace Alex Hillmick threw a seven-inning win where she didn’t allow any earned runs and chalked five strikeouts with two walks.
“It was a great way to start her season off,” Cary said. “She had great location all day.”
Chantell Lloyd picked up the second-game win by not allowing another run after the rough patch in the first inning.
Tess DeBoer and Oles each went 2 for 3 at the plate in the first game, and Smith and Enright were 3 for 3 in the second game.
