SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. – Gary Earl Gray, 67, died Jan. 27, 2008, after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer. Services were held at Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, and a military service and interment were held at the Fort Huachuca, Ariz., army base.

Mr. Gray was born Jan. 3, 1941, in Pendleton to George and Florence (St. Denis) Gray. He lived on the Umatilla Indian Reservation, in Pendleton, and in The Dalles. During the summers he fished at Celilo Falls until The Dalles Dam covered the falls in 1957. He attended Pendleton High School until joining the Army in 1959.

He served in the Army for 20 years. Sixteen years were spent overseas in Vietnam and Korea, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor. He retired with the rank of master sergeant.

He retired in 1980 to Sierra Vista, Ariz. where he was active in the community. He was past commander of the American Legion and an officer in the Elks Club. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golf and camping.

Mr. Gray is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mi Sun Gray; daughters Tammy Gray-Martin and Tina Gray, both of Tucson, and Tonya Klempp of Honolulu, Hawaii; mother Florence Watson of Hermiston; sister Loretta Gray Bertrand of Newport Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Gray; brother Larry Larsen; and sister Darlene McCleery.
