HERMISTON – Ruth Ellen Shockley, 89, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Hermiston Terrace Assisted Living Facility. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 at 1338 S.W. Suzanne Court in Hermiston.
Disposition was by cremation. Inurnment of cremains will be at the Hermiston Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.
Mrs. Shockley was born Dec. 23, 1918, at Fort Scott, Kan., to Wesley and Myrtle (Moon) Brown. She was raised in Kansas and moved to the Seattle area, where she worked as a seamstress making jackets. She moved to Yakima, where she cleaned houses, and later to Spokane before moving to Hermiston in 1996. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, fishing, camping, and cooking.
She is survived by sons Charles Shockley of Dennison, Texas, Lee Shockley of New York state, Kenneth Shockley of Spokane, Don Jones of Spokane, and Gary Brown of New York state; daughters Charlie Shockley of Hermiston, Ella Mae Roberts of Seattle, Myrtle Baker of Waco, Texas, and Joyce Boscon of Colorado; sister Mary Jundy of Longview, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons Bob Brown and Jack Gregory; identical twin sister Ruby Stroud; brothers Leroy and Bud Brown; and granddaughter Becky Roberts.
Memorial contributions may be made to the activities fund at Hermiston Terrace, or to the local charity of your choice. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
