Contact authorities before assuming pets abandoned

Last Friday evening I took my two dogs for a walk. I tied my black lab to a telephone pole on Main Street near the railroad tracks because he is old and can not walk as far as my other dog.
When I returned 15 minutes later he was gone. I assume someone thought he was abandoned and decided to take him in.
My family and I spent the weekend making fliers, talking to people around Pendleton, and contacting the police to see if anyone had reported any stray or abandoned pets.
Unfortunately for my dogs and my family, he is still missing. He has some white on his chest and a torn ear.
If you see what appears to be an abandoned animal, please contact the police department before deciding you should give the animal a new home. You may save both the animal and its owners a great deal of sadness.
