Fourth and fifth grade classes at West Hills in Pendleton also fought the Battle of the Books. The first place team, “The American Readers,” was comprised of Maddie Kelm, Paige Navratil and Teare Tinhof. Second place was won by “The Three Musketeers,” Joseph Hale, Dylan Frostad and Sam Kwong.

The students formed teams and spent time studying the 12 selected books before the competition began on Feb. 20 Principal Shelly Liscom reported. During that event, the teams were whittled down to the last two standing.

“For the first time ever, two fourth grade teams went toe-to-toe for the final battle,” Liscom said. “The final battle was held as an assembly and the whole school enjoyed the close and exciting competition.”
