WESTON – An Elgin man died Friday in a head-on-collision on Highway 204 near Weston, according to an Oregon State Police press release.

Patrick Charles Sudway, 25, was driving a Dodge Caravan westbound when he drifted into the eastbound lane around 8 a.m. The van crashed into a flatbed truck heading eastbound.

The highway was closed for 21/2 hours due to both lanes being blocked from the crash.

Sudway was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the flatbed truck received minor injuries. John Ambrose, 35, and David Boyd, 26, both of Kennewick, were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla. They were treated and released Friday.

Ambrose and Boyd said they saw Sudway look up from the passenger side of the Caravan just before impact. They believe he was reaching for something inside the vehicle.

OSP troopers are continuing the investigation.

At press time, it was unknown whether safety restraints were an issue in the crash.
