Pasco couple wins Boardman derby

BOARDMAN – John and Katherine Weisz of Pasco proved consistency wins fishing derbies this past weekend as the duo claimed first in the High Desert Marine Walleye Derby.
The Derby, which featured 106 fishermen and women, paid $12,160 for top placers. Competitors reeled in 340 walleye that weighed a total of 1,096.67 pounds.

John and Katherine Weisz weighed in the heaviest bag on Sunday, placing first with 30.88 pounds. The two finished fifth on Saturday with 22.68 pounds and the two-day total gave them top honors in the tournament.
The big fish of the tournament was caught on Saturday by Dave Chambers of Pasco and Ron Sawyer of Moses Lake at 13.24 pounds.
The heaviest bag weighed in Saturday’s round was brought in by Greg Osborne of Coulee City and Mike Hepper of Richland. The duo, however, added 9.38 pounds on Sunday and finished seventh overall.
Jim and Jimmy Laposi of Kennewick took third overall with 42.56 pounds.
Twin Brothers Stan and Steve Romig of Umatilla and Woodland Wash., reeled in a total of 38.26 pounds for sixth place.
William Hensal of Stanfield and Alan Burk formerly of Umatilla brought 33.22 pounds of walleye to the scales for the eighth-place check.
