Nationals crush Americans in Babe Ruth tournament

HERMISTON- The Pendleton Nationals put the game away in a hurry by jumping out to a 7-1 lead after two innings, leading to a 17-1 drubbing of the Pendleton Americans in the District 6 14-year-old tournament at Weber Field.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Nationals used seven walks and nine errors by the Americans to tally four runs in the second inning and eight innings in the third.
Jared Standley led the Nationals at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI, while teammate Dan Fisher went 1 for 2 with a double.
Tyler Biddle and Jon Thorpe were the only two Americans to record a base hit in the contest, both hitting singles.
Starting pitcher Robbie Perry was given credit for the pitching victory for the Nationals, going four innings while striking out a pair and only allowing one base hit. Standley came out from behind the plate to pitch the fifth inning.
Thorpe was tagged with the loss for the Americans, throwing three innings, giving up six hits and issuing six walks.
The Nationals (3-0) will battle Tri-County (1-1) on Thursday at 4 p.m. while the Americans (0-2) have a twinbill against Blue Mountain (1-1) at 1 p.m. and Hermiston (1-1) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
13-year-old tournament
Pendleton Americans 14, Tri-County Americans 4
A six-run fourth inning fueled the Pendleton Americans to a 14-4 decision over the Tri-County Americans in 13-year-old action at Weber Field.
The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Tri-County out-hit Pendleton 7-6, but was doomed by 14 walks and 17 wild pitches/pass balls.
For Pendleton, Chris Lein led the way with his bat, going 2 for 4.
Bryant Tarter went 2 for 4 with a double for Tri-County.
Hurler Adam Lange picked up the win for Pendleton.
Adrian Soto of Tri-County was given the loss in the contest.
The Tri-County Americans (0-1) will entertain the Pendleton Nationals (1-0) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. while the Pendleton Americans (0-1) take on Hermiston on Thursday at 7 p.m.
