PRINEVILLE – Darcia Lee Chaney-Mayberry, 77, of Springfield, recently of Prineville, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at her son’s home in Prineville.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Prineville Church of the Nazarene.
Mrs. Chaney-Mayberry was born Aug. 2, 1927, at La Grande, the daughter of Nolan and Audrey Nash Skiff. She graduated from Pendleton High School in 1945, then attended the University of Washington in 1945-1946, majoring in music. She met Joseph H. Chaney in Pendleton. They were married Sept. 20, 1946, and divorced in 1966.
On March 11, 1969, she married William Mayberry at Pendleton. Mr. Mayberry died in 1999 at Springfield.
Mrs. Chaney-Mayberry was a concert violinist. For more than 25 years she was a professional musician, playing organ and piano in Pendleton. In 1971 she moved to Springfield where she played the organ for the Bethel Assembly of God Church.
She enjoyed horses, boating, and raised exotic birds. At one time she had over 300 birds in her own aviary. She also enjoyed swimming and raising fish.
Survivors include her son, Michael, and his wife, Cindy Chaney, of Prineville; her daughter, Cheri, and her husband, Dale Bromell, of Lowell; her son, David and his wife, Debbie Chaney, of Prineville, two stepsons and a stepdaughter, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
