Superhero has human foibles

Jennifer Garner is a great actress, but I’m not familiar with the “Elektra” comic-book series.
I found out, however, that I really didn’t need to be. I wasn’t “lost” at all, and I was even entertained, a bit more than I’d expected.
Elektra is a super-hero, of course, but she is also terribly human, in that she hates her job as an assassin, and she suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. She even needs a prescription sleep aid, from time to time. Usually, though, if she can’t sleep, she gets up and works out like mad until the viewer can see why she is as lethal as she is.
This film, true to its comic-book nature, leaves an opening for a sequel if the writers and producers see fit. I’m sure there are many Elektra fans out there who are hoping for that. In the meantime, go ahead and see “Elektra” in the theater, or wait for video. But don’t judge this film prematurely, as I did.
It was a nice way to spend a Sunday evening, even if my family and I aren’t regular readers of comic books.
