PENDLETON – A memorial service and reception for John Gilbert Clark will be held between 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Vert Little Theater.

Mr. Clark, 76, of Pendleton, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at his home.

He was born Aug. 6, 1928, at Waterloo, Iowa, to Howard and Phyllis Lembke Clark. He was raised on a small farm at Waterloo.

He joined the Air Force at a young age and served during World War II.

He met and married his wife Phyllis in 1951. Together they had five children.

Mr. Clark helped build the Space Needle and the Trojan Nuclear Plant, then worked at Pier Al Naval Base for several years. He and his family moved to Portland in the late 1970s. He finished his career at Raygo Wagner. He retired in the 1980s due to illness and spent the rest of his life enjoying nature, loving his grandchildren, writing his life story and restoring his pickup.

He spent his last few days with his family at home as he wished.

Survivors include daughters, Rosemarie Bartley and her husband, John of Pendleton, and Susan Overly and husband, John, of Portland; Sons: Bruce Clark and his wife, Kerry, of Portland, and Dean Clark of Umatilla; grandsons, Christopher Clark, Travis Clark, Dakota Clark, Forest Clark and J.J. Bartley; granddaughters, Shyanne Clark, Alicia Bartley, Nikki Bartley, and Dymond Bartley; and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, by his daughter, Peggy Kay, and by a grandson, Jonathan T. Bartley

Memorial contributions may be made to the John G. Clark Memorial Fund at U.S. Bank of Pendleton.
