PENDLETON – State Rep. Bob Jenson joined about 50 others at the B-52 Monument at the Pendleton Armory early Sunday morning to remember D-Day on the anniversary of the allied invasion of German-occupied France.
The event was sponsored by the Pendleton Air and Military Museum and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 922.

The VFW color guard consisted of Bill Dawson, Tom Tangney, Bill Arkell and Roger Rasico. Sgt. First Class Scott McCoy served as the master of ceremonies for the remembrance, which was attended by several veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the recent fighting in the Persian Gulf and Iraq.
After McCoy led the pledge of allegiance, Harper Jones II read a brief history of the Normandy landings.
“As long as we remember what our fathers and grandfathers have done, America will remain truly the home of freedom,” Jones said.
Curtis Nelson played taps, and as the music was fading, David Long performed a flyover in a CH-47 helicopter.
