REDMOND – Mrs. Helen Vernie Arnett, 77, a nursing home owner and resident of Redmond since 1958, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at her home.

A memorial service for Mrs. Arnett will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Highland Baptist Church in Redmond. Interment and vault committal will be at Redmond Cemetery.

She was born to Harold A. and Vernie Evans Hazzard, on Saturday, Dec. 18, 1926, at Saginaw, Mich. She grew up and attended school in Michigan where her father was a pastor. She attended Spring Arbor College and in 1946 came to Portland to visit her sister and met her husband to be, John C. Arnett.

On June 25, 1947 she married John C. Arnett at Gresham. They made their first home in Newberg, then lived in Coos Bay, Newport, Willamina and in 1958 moved to Redmond.

The couple owned and operated nursing homes and assisted living centers in central and eastern Oregon. She attended Central Oregon Community College where she received her nursing degree.

Mrs. Arnett was a member of the Redmond Free Methodist Church, was active in the church music program, and was a part of their worship team. She loved music and sang with her sisters in younger years. She loved to shop and take her girls with her; fashion was her passion. It was said she was a great hostess and loved having her family home for the holidays or any other occasion.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Arnett of Redmond; a son, Gary Arnett and his wife Carolle of Terrebonne; daughters Sandra Kilander and her husband Bruce of Redmond, and Karen Eide and her husband Tim of Bend; her brother, Vernon Hazzard of St. Louis, Mich.; her sister, Dorothy Delamarter of Pendleton; nine grandchildren, Kristine Levine, Kathryn VanEaton, Shelly Albers, Josh Kilander, Amy Arnett, Seth Johnson, Stacie Kilander, Dustin Eide and Lindsay Eide; many nephews and nieces
