Might be best to catch ‘Kid’ on DVD

“Catch that Kid” stars Kristen Stewart as Maddy Phillips; Sam Robards as Tom Stewart (dad) and Jennifer Beals as Molly Stewart (mom). Maddy is assisted in her mischief by Max Thieriot and Corbin Bleu.

Maddy is 12 years old and an excellent mountain climber, like her dad. Previously, her dad was severely injured in a mountain climb and now requires a costly $250,000 surgery to fix his spine in order to walk. It just so happens that Molly Stewart works as a security expert for banks where there is lots of money.

The three kids decide to rob the bank and pay for the dad’s surgery. Kind of far-fetched, huh? But it was pretty exciting with the go-carts and the climb up to the vault by Maddy and the mean dogs and spilling the money. The little brother was darling in the movie as Maddy had to baby-sit the evening of the big heist.

They decided to do the deed on opening night and were all dressed up themselves. The boys were so cute but Maddy was kind of plain. There’s a dopey big brother who is working as a security guard assistant and the ending, of course, is pretty mundane.

My grandson Tony and I thought the movie was “okay.” Three-year-old, TJ, wasn’t too interested in it. I’d give this movie three stars and don’t think I’d buy it.

3 out of 5 stars
