IONE – The funeral for Raymond Wagner Lundell will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Valby Lutheran Church near Ione, with concluding service and burial to follow at High View Cemetery in Ione.
Mr. Lundell, 87, of Eugene, formerly of the Ione area, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Valley West Health Care Center in Eugene.
He was born July 14, 1916, at Gooseberry, to Algott and Beulah Wagner Lundell. He attended the old Gooseberry School through eighth grade and graduated from Ione High School in 1934. He received a scholarship to attend Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, but later returned home to help his father on the family farm.
On Oct. 6, 1938, he married Charlotte McCabe, at Vancouver, Wash.
In 1941, he expanded his farming operation when he moved his family to an adjacent piece of property which became the Lundell family home.
He was active in the community, involved with the ERA Co-op, the Oregon Wheat League, Willows Grange, and Heppner Elks Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors and served as Treasurer for the Soil Conservation District at Heppner.
In 1959, Mr. Lundell was named Conservation Man of the Year for Morrow County.
He was a longtime member of Valby Lutheran Church which his grandfather had helped build. He had served on the Church Council.
In 1969, the Lundells moved from the farm to Eugene where Mr. Lundell began working for the State of Oregon as a Safety Compliance Officer in the Accident Prevention Division.
Mr. Lundell retired in 1983.
He enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling. He was a collector of coins, stamps and rocks. He was said to be devoted to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of Eugene; daughters, Karen Stack of Chester, Mont., and Cheryle Foskett of Moraga, Calif.; brother, Wally Lundell of Portland; grandchildren, Michelle Bahnmiller, Dara Coates, Sean Stack, Jason Stack, Christopher Foskett and Janelle Foskett; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Charles Lundell who died in 2003.
