Nothing new to an overused story line in ‘Win a Date’

“Win a Date with Tad Hamilton” stars Kate Bosworth as Rosalee Futch.
The small-town, naive, girl-next-door, works at a West Virginia Piggly Wiggly with her two best friends, Pete and Cathy. She is in love with movie star heartthrob Tad Hamilton, whose clean-cut image is about to be betrayed by his wild lifestyle.
Before his career is ruined by tabloid exposure, Tad’s managers start a contest intended to get him good publicity. Rosalee wins the contest, but seemingly contrary to its purpose, Tad follows her back to West Virginia. Supposedly he wants to find direction and have a little goodness rub off on him.
With all of the limelight on Tad, Pete, who is more than a little shy, is left with the almost impossible task of winning Rosalee’s heart.
With a cast of energetic and likable young actors, “Win a Date” brings nothing new to an overused story. Although film makers tried to give depth to their unimaginative characters, they only succeeded in making then inconsistent and unbelievable.
Tad’s two assistants (Sean Hayes and Nathan Lane) are downright annoying, but never funny, throughout the whole movie.
Kate Bosworth is charming, but not even her good looks and youthful personality can save “Win a Date.”
