PENDLETON – Kyle Peterson scored the winning touchdown for the Broncos in the second overtime to lead his team to a 30-24 win over the Colts in the 2003 Requa Bowl Wednesday at Round-Up Stadium, concluding the Pendleton Youth Football League season.

His score spoiled a huge effort by Levin Fox, who had touchdown runs of 40, 45 and 80 yards for the Colts.

Peterson scored the game-tying touchdown in the fourth quarter and halted the Colt’s final drive in regulation.

Both teams played strong defense in the first overtime to stop the opening drives in the Kansas style tiebreaker system where each team gets the ball on the opponent’s 10-yard line.

The Boncos took an early lead when Alex Fetterhoff caught a 77-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Hamilton and Brandon Bradley followed with a two-point extra point kick. They led 16-0 after a Hamilton 1-yard run and another Bradley kick.

Levin, who proved hard to take down all night, scored the next three touchdowns for the Colts as they claimed a 24-16 lead before Peterson tied the game in the fourth quarter.

The Boncos’ defense stopped the Colts in overtime on four plays but the offense could not move the ball beyond the Colt 7-yard line. The Broncos lined up for a kick that was blocked, but an offsides penalty gave them another opportunity, which also failed. A false start doomed the final Colt drive and they never moved inside the Bronco 5-yard line.

On third down from the 10, Travis Jones picked up four yards but Derek Swearingen was stopped on a one-yard quarterback keeper.
