CONDON – A memorial service for Susan Marie Smith will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Condon Elks Lodge.

Mrs. Smith, 43, of Condon, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on I-84, near Biggs Junction.
She was born Aug. 18, 1959, at Condon, to Al Riney and Peggy Dean Rice Riney. She grew up at Condon and attended Condon Schools, graduating from Condon High School in 1977. She had been a cheerleader for the Condon Blue Devils in high school. She attended a beauty college at Salem and became a hairdresser.
On Dec. 22, 1979, she married Robert E. Smith at White Salmon, Wash. The couple lived at The Dalles for a time then moved to a ranch at Mikkalo in 1980. In 1986, they moved to Prineville, and in 1990 to Condon. Mrs. Smith was a beautician at Condon and was active in St. John’s Catholic Church and assisted with community events such as the 4th of July tennis tournament. She had served as tournament director as well as a player.
The Smiths lived at Condon for 12 years before moving to Salem where they lived for a year. They had recently returned to Condon.
Survivors include her husband, “Bob” Smith, son, Caleb, daughter, Shana, and mother, Peggy Dean Riney, all of Condon; father, Al Riney of Heppner; sister, Deanna Stinchfield of Salem; brothers, Dave Riney of Condon, and Steve Riney of Prineville.
