HERMISTON – Lyle J. Hallowell, 49, of Hermiston, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, in Walla Walla with vault interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call between 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Herring Funeral Home for viewing and visitation.

Mr. Hallowell was born June 18, 1954, at Walla Walla, to Rodney and Hazel Booth Hallowell. He attended DeSales School and graduated from DeSales High School. He attended Washington State University for two years, then returned to Walla Walla.

On June 27, 1975, he married Sandra R. Prest at Walla Walla.

He was employed by Auto Supply Inc. in Walla Walla for two years, then was transferred to Hermiston where he managed “8 to 8” Auto Supply from August 1977 until September 1990. He then became parts and service manager at Harley Swain Subaru in Hermiston where he had been working at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Hermiston First Christian Church.

He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, golf, his garden and yard. His special hobby was cars and he worked on old and new models. It was said he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and that he was an outgoing person who had many friends and several “adopted” daughters and their friends.

Survivors include his wife, at the home; daughters, Michelle Miller of Tigard, Stacey Schouten of Hermiston and Andrea Hallowell of Oahu, Hawaii; his parents, Rodney and Hazel Hallowell of Seattle; half-sister, Sandra Mattingly of Seattle; grandchildren, Taylor Miller, Kiersten Miller and Zoe Schouten, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle.
