Margery E. Woolworth

Word has been received of the death of former Pendleton resident Margery Erwin Woolworth, 88, on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Wilmington, Del.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Woolworth was born at Sprague, Wash., to Frank and Pearl Sanderson Erwin. She was raised in Pendleton where she attended school, graduating from Pendleton High School in 1933. She then attended the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque for one year.

She married Philip M. Woolworth, who preceded her in death.

She had been employed as a secretary in Portland, South Bend, Ind., and New York City. Mrs. Woolworth and her husband managed an apartment complex at Fort Myers, Fla., for a time, moving to Stockport, N.Y., in 1980. They worked for the Register-Star Newspaper in Hudson, N.Y., for several years during the early 1980s delivering newspapers.

Mrs. Woolworth was an accomplished needlepoint artist and pianist. She enjoyed reading, music, all animals, especially dogs, and was rarely seen without her Cairn terrier, Alfie.

Survivors include daughters, Susan C. Stafford of Wilmington, Del., and Sarah E. Kleemann of Stockport, N.Y.; son, Philip S. Woolworth of Wilmington, Del.; grandchildren, David W. Stafford, Jeffrey J. Stafford, and Tracey W. Houlihan; stepgrandson, Gunnar A. Kleemann; one great-grandchild, and several other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, by her parents, and by brothers, Robert Erwin, Charles Erwin, Wayne Erwin, Dean Erwin and Dale Erwin.
