Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant found in many cold remedies. It works by opening up the nasal passages, but a side effect is an increase in heart rate and blood pressure. Susceptible people feel anxious and agitated, and may have heart palpitations. Nasal decongestant sprays are a better alternative for people who are sensitive to oral pseudoephedrine.
