Word has been received of the death of Ritter native Frank Hathaway Andrus, 88, of Fossil, Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Bend.

A memorial funeral service with military honors was held at the Roseburg National Cemetery Nov. 29.
Mr. Andrus was born July 31, 1914, at Ritter to Grove and Margaret Skinner Andrus. He attended school at Ritter.
During World War II he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in a medical detachment caring for German prisoners.
In 1948, he moved to Roseburg where he was employed by Roseburg Lumber Company for 291/2 years, retiring in 1976.
He belonged to Lumber and Sawmill Workers Local 2949 for more than 50 years.
Mr. Andrus enjoyed woodworking and working with leather.

He attended Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg.
In 1998, Mr. Andrus and his wife, Betty, moved to Fossil.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Fossil; daughter, Dixie Ragan of Eugene; son, Kenneth Andrus; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A daughter, Dorothy Douglas, preceded him in death.
Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel, Roseburg, was in charge of arrangements.
