‘The Transporter’ goes nowhere

The new film “The Transporter,” directed by Cory Yuen, makes a big deal about following rules.
Jason Stratham stars as Frank Martin, an ex-U.S. Special Forces operative who now makes his living transporting any package, no questions asked as long as his clients follow his rules. Rule one: Never change the deal. Rule two: Never use names. Rule three: Never look in the package.

He is hired to transport a package that will weigh less than 50 kilos to a prearranged site. While en route he experiences a flat tire.
While getting the spare out of the trunk he notices that the package is moving. The first rule he breaks is number three.
With the resulting situation, he is thrown into a multinational smuggling ring that makes him eventually break the remaining rules.
The plot is so full of holes that one could drive a semi through them. For instance, why would heavily armed men stand around in single file to be pummeled by a martial arts enthusiast when any one of them could simply shoot the action to a stop?
The fight scenes are visually stunning. The car/truck chases are pure adrenaline rushes. If logic is key, rent a video instead because “The Transporter” proves the old adage “rules are made to be broken.”
