Two hunters wounded by alleged poacher

PILOT ROCK – A Stanfield man was cited and released by state police after allegedly wounding two men while poaching a turkey from his truck Saturday at about 2:30 p.m.
Jeffrey Scott Kammerzell, 33, 430 Howard, was cited for reckless endangering, negligent wounding of another, attempted taking of a turkey during closed season and shooting from the roadway.
Kammerzell neglected to note a camp full of hunters behind birds he was shooting at while on U.S. Forest Service Road 5411, about 15 miles southeast of Pilot Rock, according to Oregon State Police incident logs.
One man was struck in the calf with No. 6 bird shot, and another was hit in the forearm.
Kammerzell and his friends headed east down a dead-end road, and the victims and their friends barricaded it and confronted Kammerzell while armed, according to police logs.
The victims photographed the vehicle and occupants, and called state police.
An officer arrived, contacted victims, collected evidence and seized the firearm from the suspect.
