PENDLETON – Rodeo history writer Gail Woerner will be signing copies of her newest book “Cowboy Up: The History of Bull Riding” at the Round-Up Hall of Fame during this year’s Pendleton Round-Up.

The Round-Up is prominently featured in the book and others she has written.

Woerner, who lives in Austin, Texas, has written extensively on several topics concerning historical rodeo figures. Many of her books include stories about famous figures at the Round-Up. Pendleton’s famous retired rodeo clown Monk Carden was interviewed for her book “Fearless Funnymen: History of the Rodeo Clown.”

Woerner said in a press release she is “… on a mission. I intend to get the history of rodeo out there so it won’t be lost. Our children in schools need these books as reference material badly. Rodeo is never mentioned in regular history books.”

She’s also written a book titled “Belly Full of Bedsprings: History of Bronc Riding.” She’ll have copies of all three books available during her appearance at the Hall of Fame.

Woerner has written articles for various magazines, such as American Cowboy, Western Horseman and Persimmon Hill. She is a member of the Western Writers of America, The Rodeo Historical Society, National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and several other organizations.

The author had planned to promote her books at last year’s Round-Up but was unable to attend after her flight was canceled following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11.
