Elk seminar planned in Hermiston

An afternoon and evening of displays and demonstrations is on tap for the Aug. 17 “Elk Hunting Seminar” at New Hope Church in Hermiston.
In addition to local craftsmen showing bow making and arrow making skills, the event also will feature a variety of activities for hunters of all ages. A shooting ranges will be set up for instruction, tips and practice. Ranges will be available for children and adults with shooting instruction and practice on long bows and compound bows.
Featured speaker at the seminar is Larry Jones, a nationally recognized hunter, writer, photographer and call designer. Jones will share tips, techniques and hunting stories. Jones has been bow hunting for more than 40 years and is involved in a number of hunting activities in Oregon and nationwide.
Jones is a freelance outdoor writer who articles have appeared in most major outdoor magazines, provided information and photos for several books and is currently working on his own book on elk. Besides still photography, he captures wildlife on video and produces wildlife and hunting videos. He also is president of Wilderness Sound Production, which markets the wildlife calls he has designed and a line of information cassettes.
The displays, demonstrations and shooting activities open at 2 p.m.
Admission to the banquet, which begins at 5 p.m. and the 7 p.m. Larry Jones Seminar, is $10 for adults and $2 for students under 12. Featured at the banquet will be barbecued pig prepared by Follet’s Pioneer Meat Company of Hermiston.
New Hope Church is located south of Hermiston on Highway 395.
