From the editor’s desk: The year is flying by

Published 9:00 am Saturday, June 15, 2024

Winter’s snow turned into spring blossoms fast and as we enter into summer I find it amazing how fast the year is flying by.

Here in Northeast Oregon it sometimes feels as if life has accelerated, delivering a mix of busy days along with — hopefully — some peaceful moments.

Our local communities are buzzing with a plethora of events. These events remind us we share a rich culture of determined people who care about their neighbors.

Our local farms and markets are bursting with fresh produce, showcasing the hard work of our farmers and artisans. These farms and markets are on the verge of another harvest season that will once again illustrate we are an area of abundance.

I think it is important that even as we move through the triumphs and challenges of daily life, we take a moment to drink in the beautiful area we are fortunate to live in.

Our landscape offers the kind of natural beauty that can take a person’s breath away. The Wallowa and Blue mountains offer a perfect escape during the hot summer months.

We showcase hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities that can’t be found in an urban setting.

In short, as we move into the second part of the year, let’s savor the great beauty of our area. Let’s make the most of chances to connect, celebrate and appreciate the splendor of Northeast Oregon.

Here’s to a continued journey through 2024 filled with community spirit, natural beauty and, most of all, treasured memories of our friends, neighbors and families.
