ENTERPRISE — Wallowa Memorial Hospital has been recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence among rural hospitals for outcomes and patient perspectives.

Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top-quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) in three categories: quality, outcomes and patient perspective.

Most Popular

The outcomes category measures results from care and treatments patients have received. The patient perspective category measures how the patient perceived care.

The hospital announced the award on Monday, Nov. 27.

“This recognition is truly an honor and a reflection of our hardworking team’s dedication to this community,” said Dan Grigg, CEO of Wallowa Memorial, in a press release. “Wallowa County should feel proud of the fact that our local hospital performs above 75% of other rural hospitals nationwide in both outcomes and patient perspectives.”

Nick Lunde, chair of the Wallowa County Health Care District’s board of directors, expressed his gratitude for the hospital’s workers, “who are mission-driven to deliver the very best possible care for our community, fully recognizing the humanity in everyone. We have much to be thankful for here in Wallowa County and our high quality health care is at the top of my list.”

The Performance Leadership Awards are based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance Index, which uses publicly available data to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance. The Chartis Center for Rural Health is part of the Chartis Group, an analytics services and advisory firm that primarily focuses on the health care industry.

Wallowa Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and Level IV Trauma Center. Built in 2007, the hospital serves residents and visitors of Wallowa County.
