LA GRANDE — A man in his early 60s was injured Monday afternoon, Oct. 31, after he fell from a horse about a mile from Reds Horse Ranch in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.

A Life Flight Network helicopter was sent to rescue the man after his party notified first responders of the accident. The patient was able to walk to the helicopter with the assistance of members of Union County Search and Rescue and was then flown to St. Alphonsus Medical Center, Baker City, according to Union County Emergency Manager Nick Vora.

Vora said initial reports indicated the man was not able to walk and would have to be carried to the helicopter. He said additional rescue personnel were ready to be flown in to help move the man to the helicopter until it was determined he could walk with assistance.

The man was injured about 6 miles from the Moss Springs Trailhead, which is about 8 miles south of Cove.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Union County Search and Rescue also assisted.
