Eastern Oregon University volleyball teams rises to no. 2 in poll

Eastern Oregon University’s volleyball team on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022. claimed the No. 2 spot in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Eastern Oregon University has claimed the No. 2 spot in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Volleyball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The NAIA released the second poll of the season Wednesday morning, Sept. 14. Eastern, previously ranked No. 7, jumped five spots to No. 2.

“I am proud of our team for what they have accomplished so far this season and for getting recognized for it,” Coach Kaki McLean Morehead said. “Now it’s time to get back to work and continue to grow.”

EOU is on a 12-game winning streak and has not dropped a match since its loss in the season opener. In 13 games this season, the Mountaineers have played seven ranked opponents, winning six of those matchups. Eastern remains undefeated in conference play after their victory over the College of Idaho on Sept. 13.

The Mountaineers returned to action Sept. 16 against on Warner Pacific in Quinn Coliseum, La Grande.

And the Eastern Oregon University’s men’s cross-country team was named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Sept. 5-11, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday, Sept. 11.

The 13th-ranked Mounties dominated Sept. 9 in a win at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Preview meet and flirted with a perfect score, putting five runners in the top-six to compile 17 points. It beat out runner-up No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon University by 42 points.

EOU’s Justin Ash won the individual event, completing the 8,000-meter race at Clover Road Field in 25 minutes, 30.2 seconds.

The Mounties were back in action on Sept. 16 at home for the EOU Invitational.
