Marvin Boyd Coffelt

Marvin Boyd Coffelt was born on October 30, 1919, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to parents Wilburn Clarence and Mildred (Ramsey) Coffelt. He died on August 25, 2012, at his home in Hermiston, Oregon, at the age of 92 years. Marvin spent a good portion of his life in Durango, Colo., and was a member of the LaPlata County, Colo., Civilian Conservation Corp. He joined the Colorado National Guard and in January 1941 was called up to serve in the U.S. Armys 168th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII.

Marvin was united in marriage to Florence Henley on June 26, 1943, in Axtec, New Mexico. After his honorable discharge they settled in San Jose, Calif., where he was employed by Borcher Bros. as a truck mechanic and shop foreman until his retirement in 1981. He raised three children in San Jose and upon his retirement he and his wife relocated to Hermiston, Ore., where his youngest son resided.

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and building things. He really enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to do those things that he loved. His final years were brightened by watching his grandchildren grow into talented self-sufficient adults and the birth of his first great-grandchild brought him a special kind of joy.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence Coffelt, Hermiston, Ore., children Linda Joyce Davis (Gerald) of Irrigon, Ronald Gene Coffelt of Hayden, Idaho, and Tommy Ray Coffelt (Dorothy) of Hermiston. He has 5 grandchildren: David Davis, Clifford Coffelt, Nicole Easterday (Nate), Travis and Eric Coffelt, 1 great-granddaughter, Tatum Easterday, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Doyt and Byron. At his request there will be no funeral service and disposition will be by cremation.
