Turned up by a plow from its burial place of thirty-eight years, a little gold band engagement ring is today back upon the finger upon which it was first placed half a century ago. To Mrs. W.M. Blakely, pioneer resident of Pendleton and Umatilla county, belongs the ring with this history. It was purchased by Mr. Blakely in Corvallis in 1863 and placed upon the finger of his betrothed who was then Miss Margaret Baird of Brownsville. They were married the following year and shortly afterwards moved to the county and settled upon the farm at Eastland, which they still own. It was lost when she lent it to her husbands brother, George Blakely, who wanted to wear it to a dance. He returned to Brownsville with the ring and in due time wrote to his sister-in-law that the ring had been lost. Cleon McFarland, a nephew of Mr. Blakely, turned up a glittering object while plowing on the old home place at Brownsville. It proved to be the lost ring, being easily identified by the initials W.M.B. engraved on its inner surface. Forthwith it was forwarded to its owner who, little more than a bride when it disappeared, received it back on the 48th anniversary of her wedding.

Pendleton police arrested two juveniles Monday who allegedly stole a 1983 Ford Ranger from Davenport, Wash. Police received a message from Davenport about 1:09 p.m. Monday that the vehicle had been stolen. Davenport police believed the suspects were heading toward Umatilla or La Grande. The report said the pickup had POLICE bumper sticker and a loaded .38 caliber pistol in the glove box. Just before 2 p.m., police spotted the pickup and stopped it in the first block of Southeast Dorion. As is Pendleton Police policy, police apprehended the suspects at gunpoint. Taken into custody for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle were Jimmy D. Moore, 17, and Sherry L. Welch, 16, both of Spokane, Wash. They were also charged with being runaways, and lodged in the Northeast Oregon Regional Youth Center in Pendleton.
