Geologist, hike and lecture focus on Wallowa Lake

ENTERPRISE A pair of upcoming events will highlight the moraines of Wallowa Lake. Offered through the Wallowa Land Trust, the activities include a lecture/book release and a hike.

Geologist Dr. Ellen Morris Bishop will provide geologic history of the Wallowa Mountains and Wallowa Lakes moraines Friday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. at Stage One, 117 E. Main St., Enterprise. The lecture also marks the release of Wallowa Land Trusts book Moraines of Wallowa Lake.

As a follow-up to the lecture/book release, Bishop will lead a hike at the east moraines of Wallowa Lake. Discussion on the geology, natural history and cultural significance of the moraines will be included during the moderate to strenuous hike. Those interested in participating will meet Saturday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. at the Wallowa Land Trust office, 116 S. River St., Enterprise.
