Letter: U.S. citizens should be wary of troubling trend

All politicians stretch the truth to get elected; it does not matter whether you are an Independent, a Democrat or a Republican. I do have to admit that the Republicans have way more money to shove it down your throat. I dont believe anything unless I see it on several different channels on TV or research it on FactCheck.org or some other independent site. All political parties will try to get you to hate the other candidate because they can only win if they have enough people on their side of the fence. People right now are starting to press others into voting their way, and claiming that if you believe the other side you are an idiot. What no one is talking about is history.
If you look back into history, most civilizations collapse because the rich take all of the money from the weak and the poor. A good example is Syria today; the rich have taken all of the money from the poor and working class, and look what has happened. What everyone should be putting their effort into, instead of trying to get people to vote their way, is to spend that same amount of energy trying to get term limits for Congress.
Back when I was young, there were more politicians that were there because they wanted to make the United States better; now there are more of them that are in government to get rich rather than help people. What we really need is term limits for Congress, and transparency. Why do we need to have secret money donated to help get people elected? That allows even foreign countries to sway our elections.
Big money has bought our government, and unless the general public wakes up and tries to get big money out of politics, the United States can easily go the way of Syria. If that happens everyone is going to be sorry. When big money can spend billions of dollars to get 10 times that amount back, why wouldnt they? Wake up!
