Red cross assists Riverside fire victims

PENDLETON The American Red Cross provided assistance to displaced residents of a mobile home fire early Wednesday morning.
The Red Cross is providing food, lodging and clothing for two adults, five children and two pets displaced by the fire, which was started by a discarded cigarette in their mobile home at 2712 Riverside Ave., No. 74.
The two adult residents who were sleeping in the mobile home early Wednesday morning safely evacuated the building and extinguished the fire with a garden hose before Pendleton Fire and Ambulance arrived.
Pendleton Fire Marshal Tyler Nokes said the fire burned a hole through one side of the mobile home and left heavy smoke damage throughout the structure. He said the damages were repairable, although he wasnt sure how much they would cost.
The children werent home the night of the fire.
